An opponent of the war, Carlos Delgado refused to stand when ``God Bless America'' was played last season at games involving his Toronto Blue Jays. Instead, he would stay on the bench or go into the dugout tunnel.
He said he'll continue his protest this season with the Marlins.
``I wouldn't call it politics, because I hate politics,'' he said. ``The reason I didn't stand for `God Bless America' was because I didn't like the way they tied `God Bless America' and 9-11 to the war in Iraq in baseball."

Journalist Seymour Hersh has been saying that if we ever hear the full story of Guantanamo, it's going to make Abu Ghraib look like a tea party. Now the story is starting to leak out:
(AP) - Female interrogators tried to break Muslim detainees at the U.S. prison camp in Guantanamo Bay by sexual touching, wearing a miniskirt and thong underwear and in one case smearing a Saudi man's face with fake menstrual blood, according to an insider's written account. A draft manuscript obtained by The Associated Press is classified as secret pending a Pentagon review for a planned book that details ways the U.S. military used women as part of tougher physical and psychological interrogation tactics to get terror suspects to talk.

Rap Mogul, Drug Kingpin Surrender to Feds
By MICHAEL WEISSENSTEIN, Associated Press Writer
NEW YORK - The hip-hop label behind music superstars Ashanti and Ja Rule was part of a murderous criminal enterprise that protected its interstate crack and heroin operation with calculated street assassinations, federal authorities charged Wednesday.
Label head Irv "Gotti" Lorenzo and his brother Christopher surrendered to the FBI (news - web sites) on money-laundering charges Wednesday as federal prosecutors unsealed an indictment seeking to confiscate Irv Gotti's real estate and business holdings.
Gotti's childhood friend, Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff, one of New York's most notorious drug kingpins, was charged with murder, racketeering and other crimes that prosecutors said were intended to eliminate and intimidate potential witnesses.
McGriff already is in prison on a relatively minor gun charge.
Prosecutors said McGriff and the Gottis funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars in McGriff's drug profits through The Inc., a chart-topping label owned partly by Def Jam, a subsidiary of Universal Music.
Recording in a studio dubbed "The Crackhouse," The Inc. has sold about 20 million records behind Ja Rule and Ashanti, who were not charged in the indictment. Ja Rule's current album, "R.U.L.E.," peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard chart. Ashanti is now appearing in the movie "Coach Carter," which debuted atop the box office list two weeks ago.

This guy sold his forehead on eBay for advertising space. At first I thought he was an asshole, but dude made $37,000 for wearing this on his forehead for one month. Mine's available.
Normally I feel that online petitions are a bullshit waste of time. Here's one I can get behind though. It's to stop Ashlee Simpson from singing. www.stopashlee.com
I haven't been updating the blog very much this month. January has been kicking my ass. I'm not too sure about this 2005 business yet. I've been broke as hell, and yes people, I do work a day job. I had to find a new roommate, busted up my knee pretty badly, I wake up in the middle of the night every night with an allergy attack, etc., etc., etc. and a bunch of other bullshit. I will try to do better.
I rode a bike from my apartment through Golden Gate Park to the beach and back yesterday. That was fun. If anyone has a bike to sell let me know.
Frisco Disco seems to be everywhere lately. It was on Public Access 29 last night. I would suggest keeping the cameras out the bathroom though. Yeah.
Spock rock. This is stolen from Daniel Taylor. I made some additions:
President Bush is totally down with Satan, as evidenced by his hand signs at yesterday's inauguration. Shout at the devil George!

We're having another sure to be legendary issue release party on Friday, February 11th at 12 Galaxies (2565 Mission Street @ 22nd). Bands and DJs are coming together as I write this, check back for more info soon. ----------- UPDATE! Unfortunately, due to a booking mistake on the club's end, this party has been cancelled.
Our last party:
"Sometimes, words have consequences you don't intend them to mean," Bush said Thursday. "'Bring 'em on' is the classic example, when I was really trying to rally the troops and make it clear to them that I fully understood, you know, what a great job they were doing. And those words had an unintended consequence. It kind of, some interpreted it to be defiance in the face of danger. That certainly wasn't the case... I don't know if you'd call it a regret, but it certainly is a lesson that a president must be mindful of, that the words that you sometimes say. … I speak plainly sometimes, but you've got to be mindful of the consequences of the words. So put that down. I don't know if you'd call that a confession, a regret, something."
LONDON (Reuters) - Comedian Sasha Baron Cohen has escaped a near-riot at an American rodeo while filming his satirical "Da Ali G Show."
According to a report in the Roanoke (North Carolina) Times, a man who was introduced as Boraq Sagdiyev from Kazakhstan -- in reality a Cohen character named Borat -- appeared at the rodeo over the weekend after organisers agreed to have him sing the national anthem.
After telling the crowd he supported America's war on terrorism, he said, "I hope you kill every man, woman and child in Iraq, down to the lizards ... And may George W. Bush drink the blood of every man, woman and child in Iraq." He then sang a garbled version of "The Star-Spangled Banner."
The Roanoke Times reported that the crowd turned "downright nasty." One observer said "If he had been out there a minute longer, I think somebody would have shot him."
Cohen and his film crew were escorted out of the Salem Civic Center and told to leave the premises.
"Had we not gotten them out of there, there would have been a riot," rodeo producer Bobby Rowe told the paper. "They loaded up the van and they screeched out of there."
It is not the first time Cohen has wooed controversy with his show, which airs on Channel 4 in the UK and on HBO in the United States. In one episode last year, Borat sang an anti-Semitic song called "Throw the Jew Down the Well" at a U.S. country music bar, prompting protests from the U.S-based Anti-Defamation League.
Producers of the Ali G show, Talkback Thames, were unavailable for comment.
After work yesterday I headed over to West-Add Radio (93.7 FM in San Francisco) to be on The Ant Show and spin some records. There were a couple of bands on as well, and a spoken word poet from Portland, Contajus. It was basically a bunch of drinking and talking with some music thrown in. I got to play some songs, here's a partial playlist:
Six Feet Deep (featuring Thug E. Fresh, Z-Man & Eddie K) - "Stay on Gurp"
Von Iva - "Solid Gold"
The Rum Diary - "Memory Control
Jonathan Richman - "Vincent Van Gogh"
Whysall Lane
You can also listen at www.westaddradio.com. What they're doing over there is really cool. Putting good music on the radio and supporting local artists. There's a benefit for West Add radio at the Rickshaw Stop on Thursday, January 20th with Big Techno Werewolves, The Yellow Press & Death Sentence Panda, plus DJs Marco & Jenny Young.
After that I headed over to Cafe Du Nord for the Turn Records 5th Anniversary Party. I got there in time to see one of my favorite bands of all time, Track Star, play their first set in two years. They even played songs off their first 10" LP, Sometimes, What's the Difference? and their masterpiece album Communication Breaks, which they had stopped playing entirely towards the end of their last run. The show was fun, but the set was far too short. K-Killa said she liked the songs "where they get angry." Now I hear singer/guitarist Wyatt Cusick is moving to Sweden, so that may have been the final Track Star show.
Here are a couple of pics from the show:
There's an ocean in San Francisco that I usually forget about. I went out there the other day and took a cliche sunset picture:
This guy is funny. www.dailyramblings.com He writes things like this: If you put Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson, mother and daughter, next to each other, which one are you going to say is more beautiful? If your answer is, "Well, I don't want to choose" or "Well, I think they're both beautiful in their own way", then you're full of crap. Goldie Hawn was gorgeous in her youth, but now her face looks like a turd with a blonde wig. That doesn't make her less of a person, but it does make her ineligible for participation in any shallow Hollywood "Who's hottest?" pissing contests.
Plus he's totally got naked pictures of Kirsten Dunst and Anna Kournikova if you're into stuff like that, you perverted little freak.
Last night I was watching part of the People's Choice Awards, which led to a conversation with my girlfriend on the merits of democracy. Here's an excerpt from that conversation:
Me: People shouldn't be allowed to vote for anything.
Her: What? Even for President?
Me: Especially for President.
Her: Then who would decide?
Me: Me.
I mean, look at some of the winners, Favorite on-screen chemistry: Drew Barrymore (news) and Adam Sandler in "50 First Dates"; Female movie star: Julia Roberts. Awful, awful, awful selections. However, in a surprise move, the people named Fahrenheit 9/11 their Favorite Movie and Johnny Depp their Favorite Male Movie Star. Not bad.
Howard Stone, of Southampton, England, drives around in a van that backfires a lot for his delivery job. One day he decided to mount a camera on it and take pictures. Here is one of the results:

My roommate should be very excited about this, she lives in the past.
From NME
"Full details have emerged about the much-awaited biopic of former JOY DIVISION frontman IAN CURTIS.
Celebrated rock photographer Anton Corbijn – most renowned for his work with U2 - has been confirmed as the director of the movie. It is his first time as a film director. Deborah Curtis, the widow of Ian Curtis, and former Factory Records boss Anthony Wilson will both have executive producer roles on the film.
The film’s working title is ‘Control’ and is based on Deborah Curtis’ touching book account of Ian’s life ‘Touching From A Distance’. A film documenting Curtis’ life had been planned for a number of years, but Curtis’ family had never been happy with the proposals until now.
Anthony Wilson said at a press conference in Manchester today (January 7): "Whenever Hollywood gets involved in the music industry, the end product is invariably shit. Apart from a few films. ’24 Hour Party People’ was one of them. I think we’ve got the right team together to convey the spirit of Ian on film."
The film marks Anton Corbijn’s debut as a film director. The photographer had a long working relationship with the band, photographing their first ever press shots and also directing the video for their track ‘Atmosphere’."
Oh, that liberal media again. Honestly, these motherfuckers just don't give a shit. First they sent out fake news stories made by "reporters," who are really flaks, to tv stations who ran them, now they skip the middle-man and just pay journalists to say what they want.
White House paid commentator to promote law
Fri Jan 7, 6:56 AM ET Top Stories - USATODAY.com
By Greg Toppo, USA TODAY
Seeking to build support among black families for its education reform law, the Bush administration paid a prominent black pundit $240,000 to promote the law on his nationally syndicated television show and to urge other black journalists to do the same.
The campaign, part of an effort to promote No Child Left Behind (NCLB), required commentator Armstrong Williams "to regularly comment on NCLB during the course of his broadcasts," and to interview Education Secretary Rod Paige for TV and radio spots that aired during the show in 2004.
Williams said Thursday he understands that critics could find the arrangement unethical, but "I wanted to do it because it's something I believe in."
The top Democrat on the House Education Committee, Rep. George Miller of California, called the contract "a very questionable use of taxpayers' money" that is "probably illegal." He said he will ask his Republican counterpart to join him in requesting an investigation.
The contract, detailed in documents obtained by USA TODAY through a Freedom of Information Act request, also shows that the Education Department, through the Ketchum public relations firm, arranged with Williams to use contacts with America's Black Forum, a group of black broadcast journalists, "to encourage the producers to periodically address" NCLB. He persuaded radio and TV personality Steve Harvey to invite Paige onto his show twice. Harvey's manager, Rushion McDonald, confirmed the appearances.
Williams said he does not recall disclosing the contract to audiences on the air but told colleagues about it when urging them to promote NCLB.
The new Kennedys, Kimberly Guilfoyle Newsom and Gavin Newsom have announced they are getting divorced. I'm thinking Kimberly will marry Larry King and Gavin will come out of the closet. Sweet!

Apparently Lower Haight is the new South Beach. Celebrities spotted in the area in recent times include Viva La Bam's Ryan Dunn, who we saw eating Squat & Gobble on New Year's Eve morning, skateboarder/actor Jason Lee, also outside of of Squat & Gobble, and the food guy from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy at Chow, which I guess isn't technically Lower Haight, but close enough. Also, a couple years back, PJ Harvey would go into Has Beans every single day.
It must be the people lighting themselves on fire inside of Walgreens that attract them.
