Late last year, the government of Kazakhstan took out a full page ad in the New York Times protesting Cohen's portrayal of the country and reserved the right to sue Cohen for "future pranks." In response, Borat released a video, whose most memorable line was "In response to Mr. Ashykbayev's comments, I'd like to state I have no connection with Mr. Cohen and fully support my Government's decision to sue this Jew."

The New York Times ripped on the movie because of its anti-semitic humor (and as Borat pointed out, Cohen is Jewish). I think they should have called it "Bin Laden Determined to Attack in the U.S." after the memo Bush received less than a month before the attacks while he and his war <strike>pigs</strike> hawks were drawing up their plans for a three-day war in Iraq. The problem with ABC's docudrama is that it may be mostly drama with very little "docu," due in large part that this movie was written and produced by conservative Cyrus Nowrasteh and directed by conservative David Cunningham.

The movie depicts a scene in which <strike>New Kid on the Block</strike> actor Donnie Wahlberg, playing a CIA agent, has Bin Laden in his sights and is begging for orders from the Clinton Administration to take him out. In the movie, these orders are not given, and the rest is well, you know. Problem is, this scene is a complete fabrication, and according to the 9/11 commission, never happened. Sure makes it seem like Clinton was responsible for 9/11 though. Good job boys!

The movie apparently depicts some failures of the Bush Administration as well, but just the inclusion of this completely invented scene, makes this whole thing smell pretty bad.

From Salon.com: More disturbing, though, is the way the filmmakers seem determined to link the Clinton administration's missteps to the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Instead of offering us some indication of President Clinton's earnest efforts to stop Osama bin Laden, we're repeatedly treated to his most uneasy moments in the hot seat over Lewinsky, painting the president as a buffoon more interested in blow jobs than terrorists. Meanwhile, Condoleezza Rice gets that fated memo about planes flying into buildings, and makes it very clear to anyone who'll listen just how concerned President Bush is about these terrorist threats -- despite the fact that we're given little concrete evidence of the president's concern or interest in taking action. Maybe my memory fails me, but the only person I remember talking about Osama bin Laden back in 1998 was President Clinton, while the current anti-terrorist stalwarts worked the country into a frenzy over what? Blow jobs. In the end, "The Path to 9/11" feels like an excruciatingly long, winding and deceptive path, indeed.

From ThinkProgress.com:
Last night on MSNBCs Scarborough Country, Roger Cressey a top counterterrorism official to Bush II and Clinton blasted ABCs docudrama The Path to 9/11. Cressy said its amazinghow much theyve gotten wrong. They got the small stuff wrong and then they got the big stuff wrong. He added that a scene where the Clinton administration passes on a surefire opportunity to take out bin Laden is something straight out of Disney and fantasyland. Its factually wrong. And thats shameful.

Ty Boogie: You Heard It Here First

I'm not sure exactly where this falls along the completely rad/totally fucked-up space time continuum, but allow me to introduce you to five-year-old Ty Boogie, the youngest gangsta rapper the world has ever seen. After finishing a sandwich at The Sandwich Place on Mission Street, I walked up 16th Street toward Valencia. After crossing Julian Alley I noticed a short, fat, probably semi-homeless woman walking toward me pulling one of those carry-on suitcases on wheels behind her. She was to my left, and, as she's about three feet away from me, she turned her torso and bent down to the right. She gripped the handle of the suitcase tightly and I thought, "Wait, is she gonna try to hit me with this suitcase?"
Sure enough, she swung the suitcase at me with all of her might. Luckily, using my catlike reflexes to knock it away with my left hand, I avoided getting hit. She looked at me with a deranged smile as I screamed, "What are you doing you fucking nut?!" I noticed a metal object in her left hand as I continued to berate her, "Stupid fucking cunt!" Ahh, the joys of San Francisco.

In related news, this guy is really letting me down in keeping up his documentation of my hood.

Omeed A. When that deal fell through, everything came together for the team (and love him or hate hime, you can thank Peter MacGowan for that: a new, privately-financed ballpark, Barry Bonds and years of a team in contention. Now it's the A's turn to court offers from out of town. And though the team has been looking for a new ballpark for years, nothing has happened.

Getting public money for a stadium in Oakland seems like the longest of longshots. Oakland has a lot more pressing problems than building a ballpark, and not a lot of cash to work with.

There's been a lot of talk about Fremont becoming the new home of the A's. The city even bought property for the project. For those of you who have never been (and really, why would you?): FREMONT SUCKS. What would the team be called? The Fremont A's? The Silicon Valley A's? Also, there is no public transportation available, and Fremont has money problems of its own.

San Jose has been kicked around a lot lately as a possible new home for the A's. Owner Lew Wolff has ties to the area and is speaking this Wednesday at the San Jose Chamber of Commerce. One of the topics he will be addressing is the future of baseball in San Jose. The Giants though, claim territorial rights over San Jose, which would make things difficult, if not impossible, for an A's move to the sub-urban sprawl of that city.

That said, the possibility of the A's staying in Oakland seems remote at best, and Wolff is expected to make some sort of announcement by the end of the season. There is a residential and retail development project in the works for the Oakland waterfront, called Oak to 9th. This development plan is, of course, subject to opposition for a number of reasons, but it should at least be considered as a possible new site for an A's ballpark (pipedream). A park in this location would be less than one mile from the Lake Merrit Bart station, and right off the freeway. I don't really buy the argument that stadiums bolster local economies to a great degree (though I don't think they don't do anything either), but I do think they can add hope and a bit of civic pride (did I really just write that) to a city, which is something Oakland could really use. The A's have been one of the most successful teams in all of baseball over the past 35 years, to send them off to suburban-strip-mall-land would be a shame.

www.oaklandfans.com
newballpark.blogspot.com

The Big Winner of Our E-40 Contest

Awhile back, we asked you to send us a photo of you at your hyphy-est.
