There wasn't one significant step taken prior to the hurricane to minimize damage, prepare for recovery,or put the city and state in a position to manage the aftermath. I didn't even know who this Kanye character was until I caught his rant last night during the fundraiser on TV. What the hell are those people thinking having a moron like him trying to raise money? I wonder why he wasn't outraged by the thugs who were shooting at police, helicopters, ambulances trying to get critically ill patients out of the ravaged hospitals, rescue boats, and God only knows who else. How about the rapes and murders that were happening inside the superdome? Setting buildings on fire, looting jewelry stores? I didn't hear him laying any blame on those thugs. THEY were the ones who were holding up the life saving efforts of the real heroes who were risking their own lifes. Dodging bullets should have been the last thing they needed to worry about. I didn't see any footage of Kanye swimming through the muck trying to rescue anybody. The race thing shouldn't be an issue right now. It was very inappropriate for Kanye West to complain about how black people are being treated down there. I am a democrat, but I don't think it was right for him to just start complaining about our president at a time like this. The only reason why he was at the charity event, was to try to raise money to help the victims of this disaster... I bet he did just the opposite and people didn't donate because of him. In the video, people are buying and wearing diamonds... in every scene, when a diamond is bought or worn, a ghost appears in front of the people. The ghost is a small, dark-skinned, African child. She looks poor and tired and like she's suffering... representing a victim in the war. All of the people buying and selling and wearing the diamonds are white. As if other races don't buy diamonds? If it was the other way around, and a white artist had "bad guys" in his video who were ALL black, there would be protests to get it off the air and it probably wouldn't be allowed to be played because it would be considered "racist". Kanye West isn't trying to squash the hate... he's only adding fuel to the fire. Kanye West is a very talented person and, as a celebrity, has a major influence on people. He should take what he has and use it positively.

Kanye West, Chicago native that had made an appearance in New York to help raise relief funding for the Red Cross to help victims of the Hurricane Katrina, had mentioned some comments that seemed to contradict persuasion to give money.

His comments should have been to PERsuade, not DISsuade people to give money to the Red Cross.

Kanye West painted an image of a hopeless flooded region of doom; a washed out area of deranged military told to shoot civilians, an overwhelming media presence portraying racial bias, and a President who has proven to be indifferent to the plight of a specific ethnic group. Mr. West also has been rumored to have commented on not wanting to read the script he had been given.

So my question is this: Why would someone whose profession relies on income from his own image and its popularity endanger it by appearing on a program on which he could not keep his composure?

Think about this when you exercise your first ammendment rights before articulating a clear concise thought that can come across to other you wish to appeal to. (this is especially true, if you are about to release only your second recorded album)

First of all, to those of you that think this is going to hurt Kanye's album sales, I'm curious as to what planet you're living on. Agree or disagree with what he said, Kanye just became a household. And even if you say it's not race, but class, why are they're still so many poor black people in this country? What is at the roots of that?

What conclusions can you draw about a president who consistently pushes legislation that has a direct negative impact on the lives of poor? About a president who is attempting to slash funding to Medicaid (not Medicare) as people are dying by the dozens in the South? About a president who told the incompetent head of Fema, "Brownie, you're doing a great job!" last week as black corpses were rotting on the streets of New Orleans?

First of all, the President does not not control spending, congress does. The president does submit a budget and his party does control congress, but I have never seen a congress that has spent less money. Our federal budget gets bigger every year. But lets assume in your fantasy that President Bush did control every nickel spent by our goverment.

Name for me one program that has recieved less funding While Bush has been president. Site for me one Bill or one area of the Budget that is smaller than the year before.

The Federal Education Budget has grown every year while Bush as been President and at a faster rate than when Clinton was president (11% per year under Bush and roughly 7% per year under Clinton).

As for privatizing social security what is wrong with people being allowed to invest a portion of their own money (taxes) in private accounts. I assume you have a 401 k where you work? Do you not invest in that? Do you plan to leave this money to your heirs when you die or are you going to leave it all to the government in your will?

Privatized social security would allow people to pass on their savings to their children when they die. Would that not help the Black Community? Or would you rather have the government get their hands on it and decide how its redistributed?

Show me please where Medicaid Funding has shrunk? That Budget gets bigger and bigger and they just added a half a billion to it in a prescription drug program. But let me guess, only rich white people are going to benefit from a prescription drug program.

How is a country of 30 million people (Canada) going to supply drugs to a country of 300 Million (the United States)? Also they are never going to get those kinds of conracts again in Canada the next time the those contracts need to be renewed.

Now as for underfunding "No child Left Behind" you can't call that a cut. That is an assessment of the NEA who would not be happy no matter how much money you gave those racketeers.

If the the Federal Education Budget continues to grow and grow and grow, we can only assume that failures are at the state level. For the longest time there was no federal department of Education and schools seemed to do better as they were controlled at the local level.

You do pay state taxes in your home state I assume. Do you ever wher all THAT money goes?

As for the Pell grants, The link Below details Pell grant spending for fiscal years 2004-2006. Spending on Pell increased by $360 million for 05 vs. 04. In 2006, the additional required mandatory spending in Pell led to an over all increase of $5 billion in Pell.

In the Area of total grants and loans available to students (which includes work study and new student loans etc...) spending increased as follows:

2004 $69 billion
2005 $73 billion
2006 $78 billion

Even if they cut Pell (which they didn't) but added more funds available to a wider range of students such as working parents continuing their education(which they did) you'd think you'd be happy with that.

Oh and one more thing about Canada. You should look into their healthcare system in an honest way because it is failing. All of their best doctors are coming south to the US because they can't make any money as a doctor there and have little control over how and where they can practice.

Due to these shortages patients have died awaiting treatment and trying to get appointments to see specialists. Also if you've seen any polls of Canadians as of late a majority now favors going back to a private healthcare system or at the very least have a private one running concurrently with the public one.

They may have some inexpensive drugs for the time being, but I will take our healthcare system over their's anytime.
