Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthin to Check-Mate

HHCF Belt

This weekend, the Hip-Hop Chess Federation (HHCF) hosts the first annual Chess Kings Invitational at the San Francisco Design Center (101 Henry Adams Street, San Francisco). The event features rappers, DJs and martial artists such as RZA, GZA, Q-Bert, Casual, Sunspot Jonz & Ralek Gracie going head to head in chess. International chess champion Josh Waitzkin will also will be attendance and there will be a panel discussion on the experiences of high-profile artists, athletes and authors to teach how powerful a role strategy can play in everyday life, preceded by a VIP celebrity luncheon. There is also an HHCF Scholastic Tournament, which you can register for here.

Tickets: $15; $7 for students with valid ID
All proceeds benefit the HHCF Scholarship Program.
Doors open at noon
All Ages

The Foundation Center is a nonprofit organization that gives other nonprofits that tools and information needed to seek money from Foundations. I know firsthand that it is incredibly helpful for both those that have no experience and those that have lots of experience in fund raising. It has three workshops coming up especially for you, the struggling artist. You need to register for all three workshops at the Foundation Center website. All three workshops are at The Foundation Center, 312 Sutter Street, #606, San Francisco, unless otherwise noted:

Grantseeking Basics for Individuals in the Arts
This course is geared towards individuals involved in the arts and looking to fund any type of arts-related project.

If you are an individual involved in the arts and looking for funding to complete a project, mount an exhibition, put on a performance, conduct research, or anything else arts-related, Grantseeking Basics for Individuals in the Arts will show you how to:
* Identify funders in the arts.
* Explore the option of fiscal sponsorship.
* Create a step-by-step plan to find funding for your needs as an individual grantseeker.
