The thought of being on a bus, drinking with strangers horrifies me, but this tour of the mission on The Mexican Bus, Guillermo Gómez Peña’s El Corazón de la Mission, is what I’d be doing if I didn’t already have other plans this weekend. The tour departs and returns to Galeria de la Raza, 2857 24th Street @ Bryant.
From the promoters:
A guided audio tour of San Francisco’s Mission District Featuring live performances by Violeta Luna and David Molina Aboard The Mexican Bus
Experience El Corazón de la Mission, an 80-minute audio tour scripted and narrated by renowned writer, border activist and performance provocateur Guillermo Gómez-Peña. Join Guillermo¹s longtime performance collaborator Violeta Luna, who with musician David Molina will guide you through the Mission¹s shifting border zones. From Dolores Park to Clarion Alley and the 24th Street Corridor, ride shotgun with them as Gómez-Peña honors the Mission’s ghosts, from fallen labor leaders of the 1930s to testosterone-driven low-riders of the 1980s, and celebrates the ever-evolving social, cultural and political sensibilities of his favorite San Francisco neighborhood.
