Trainwreck Riders Injured in Van Accident

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Trainwreck Riders
Local roots-rockers Trainwreck Riders were hit by a drunk driver Saturday night in Fort Worth, Texas. Bassist Garritt Heater broke his arm,  guitarist Andrew Kerwin broke a rib, and frontman Pete Frauenfelder injured his back. The band also suffered numerous scrapes and bruises in the accident, which flipped their van multiple times and heavily damaged most of their equipment. The band could definitely use your well wishes and assistance. Donations can be made through PayPal to trainwreckriders@yahoo.com or just click here.

Internet Radio Day of Silence

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

dayofsilence_07.gif
Many Web radio stations, small and BIG, are shut down today for today’s Internet Radio Day of Silence, conceived to protest the outrageous fees set by the Copyright Royalty Board. Yahoo!’s blog post has a great deal of information about the fees and how they will ruin Internet radio, and we have also posted about it before, including the ridiculous response from our own Senator Feinstein. Write to your representatives!

Rod Beck, 1968-2007

Rod Beck

Rod Beck, Giants closer throughout most of the ’90s, died Saturday at the age of 38. “Shooter” saved 199 games for the Giants from 1991 to 1997, including 48 in 1993, when he finished the year with a 2.16 ERA. He was also a true mustache inspiration, and sported a mullet for most of the ’90s. And, as the Chronicle’s Scott Ostler pointed out, in 2003, while trying to revive his career after elbow surgery, Beck played for a triple-A team in Des Moines, Iowa, and lived in an RV behind the stadium. After home games, he would invite players and fans back to the RV to party and would buy beer for everyone that showed up. R.I.P.

Matt & Kim: Marshmallow Pizza

Marshmallow Pizza

On Saturday, I attended the Matt & Kim/The Mall show at Bottom of the Hill for Blahdrey’s birthday. Good times. At one point in the show, Matt pulled out this marshmallow pizza they found at a store, asked who would eat it, so of course I raised my hand. He threw it to me and I chomped into it. Yum yum. Actually, gross, completely disgusting and I feel nauseous just thinking about it still. And The Mall is outta here for New York. Bastards. (And good luck, I hope they have much success on the East Coast.)
