I Love Steve Kline
Thursday, February 15th, 2007Baseball is here! Check out Barry Zito and Steve Kline at Giants training camp. Steve’s got a big old, gnarly beard and a beer belly. I can’t wait to see him in a Giants uniform again, walking around the mound shouting at himself.
Diarrhea 3.0

Today’s San Francisco Chronicle front page features the above giant photo spread. You see, here in San Francisco, it’s not that cold. Over on the East Coast though, it’s cold. Brrr. I sure am glad I’m not over there! Why, I don’t even have a coat to keep me warm enough. There are flowers in both photos because yesterday was Valentine’s Day. It’s like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I wonder if Rasheed Wallace likes peanut butter & jelly sandwiches.
Great San Francisco Pillow Fight of 2007 Videos
Thursday, February 15th, 2007Headed down to Justin Herman Plaza last night for the Great San Francisco Pillow Fight of 2007. There were at least a couple thousand folks down there who showed up with pillows, a few in costumes (a pumpkin, some superheroes, a German soldier) and at least one guy with a bullhorn. The fight broke out just before 6PM. I ventured in with two cameras: my SLR, and my point and shoot, which I used to take some video. I was getting smacked and bumped into, but anytime someone hit me with a pillow they would say, “Oh, sorry man, didn’t see you camera.” I left a little after 6:20PM and there were still people wailing away. I’ll post some still photos tonight, but in the meantime, here are some videos.
These videos might make you dizzy in the Blair Witch Club type way, so I’m offering up these excuses:
1. I never shoot video.
2. I was getting smacked in the head with pillows while filming.
3. I was shooting still photos with my other camera while shooting the videos.
Diarrhea 2.0

This is the front page of today’s San Francisco Chronicle. It’s a story about tech executives finding love, hence the headline “Love 2.0″. See, in the tech-world, 2.0 often signifies the official second version of something. The new tech movement toward user-generated content/Internet video/social-networking on the Web is generally referred to as “Web 2.0″, which makes the Chronicle’s headline even more hilarious. What a fantastic newspaper we have! I especially enjoyed the article on men shaving their genitals. That went nicely with my lunch. Here’s my favorite excerpt from today’s Chronicle:
Mobile group-messaging services like Twitter and Dodgeball allow people to find each other wherever they happen to be. MySpace and Facebook profiles also help people network.
And, in a world where the continuous stream of daily documentation has become as unstoppable as Detroit Pistons power forward Rasheed Wallace when he’s fired up for a game, online exhibitionism has become not only accepted but expected.
Yes, that is a great analogy Chornicle Staff Writer Jessica Guynn! I can now see just how unstoppable this daily stream of documentation is; why I’m even doing it now! It’s like I’m a hyena attacking a carcass, or George Clooney getting dressed for the Oscars!
Googe Valentine’s Day Logo
Wednesday, February 14th, 2007
What is up with Google’s Valentine’s Day logo? Why does it say “googe” (pronounced gooj or goozh)? If I had to use it in a sentence:
Yeah, Gavin was Tourkin‘ that guy’s wife, but at least he had the sense not to googe on her dress.
Takin’ It All The Way To The Bank

I have, I promise, started Part 2 of the El Bulli post. I underestimate my superpowers though, because it took me an hour, that’s right — AN HOUR, to write about the first three dishes. And I have too many jobs. I mean, honestly, I’m not sure that *actual* whores work this hard. Because of this, and because this week involves a great deal of personal pain for me, Jon and I are getting the fuck out of here and going to Disneyland. I’ll be back at the end of the week, and hopefully the weekend will provide a new El Bulli installment.
Today, I kind of feel like I threw my back out humping your mom last night. That is because yesterday I went to get down and boogie oogie oogie with over 20 other food bloggers at the San Francisco Food Bank. I had been there before, with my students, and remembered it as a tedious and painful, if noble, job. Perhaps that is because I was surrounded by 40 7th graders shrieking like harpies whilst we packaged lima beans.

Hamburger Eyes Photo Epicenter

| 5:00 pm | to | 9:00 pm |

From the people that brought you Titty City, comes a new local headquarters for all things DIY photography, the Hamburger Eyes Photo Epicenter at 26 Lilac Street (off 24th Street & Mission). The center, a collaboration between Hamburger Eyes & Colorarts features color & black & white darkrooms, a studio/gallery, a processor for color prints, a digi lab, classes and workshops, all available to you, the public, at incredibly low rates. Not sure if these rates will change, but Colorarts rates were only $14 hour for darkroom use, including paper, and even cheaper rates for students. The grand opening celebration is on Valentines Day.
The Rockout @ The Knockout: Tartufi, Moggs & Sholi
Sunday, February 11th, 2007The Rockout @ The Knockout went off on Saturday night, with epic sets from three bands: openers Sholi, who I’d never seen before, and completely blew me away with their melodic, angular sounds, MOGGS, who came in from the North Bay, and rocked the joint with Sir Plus’ crunchy guitars and Miss Minor’s syncopated rhythms, and headliners Tartufi, who with the aid of a large line of pedals, recreated the swirling, noisy sounds of their latest release, Us Upon Buildings Upon Us, and those with closed eyes could easily forget that the group is just a duo. Thanks to all the bands, The Knockout, and especially Ben & Christian from The Bay Bridged for putting it all together.
